About Abidjan

Abidjan is the third most populous French-speaking city in Africa, and is the economic capital of Ivory Coast.  Abijan has religious buildings which are very attractive to different tourists who visit to view the beauty of these buildings. There are fare costs of different modes, the four modes are namely water, airways, bus, taxi and uber.

The fares are assigned according to the required place that is to visit and it may be at national and international level. It depends on distance for example, a distance of 10 km is charged with 4,000 CFA. For 1 km, the fare cost of the listed different modes of transportation are as follows:

  • Fare cost of taxi is 400 CFA
  • Fare cost of bus is 300 CFA.
  • Fare cost of cab is 420 CFA.
  • Fare cost of uber is 400 CFA.

In Abidjan, there are colorful taxis that can get you around the city. One can use the city's red and orange taxis throughout the city. There are also communal taxis called as ‘woro woros’. For example, a 1.6 km ride on an Uber costs 400 CFA within the city. A 1km ride in a taxi in the city costs 355 CFA.

Do’s:

  • Visit St. Church, which is a swooping structure that displays large amounts of artwork. 
  • Visit the State Civilian Museum.
  • Visit the Botanical garden. 
  • Bring sunscreen to prevent sunburns.

  • Do ask for directions. The people are very nice, and you don’t want to get lost.

Dont’s:

  • One should be careful here because criminal activities are high. Due to the political differences, there is an increased rate of violence, it is unsafe to visit alone. One must seek permission from the Ambassador’s office before visiting.
  • Never try to go against security forces.
  • Traffic jams and deaths are major things that are an issue of concern.
  • Have money with you as  ATMs aren’t as readily  available as other countries might.
  • Don’t insult the locals by appropriating their culture.
  • Don’t wear clothes that might offend anyone with logos or prints.
