The Rudkhan Castle is a unique historical structure believed to be built during the Seljuk Era (1037-1194) to act as a defense mechanism. The castle stands tall at the height of 715 meters on a mountain, surrounded by dense forest. It is one of the best remains of the 12th century monuments and preserved in the most excellent form. Mostly built by brick and stone, it served as the military fortress in the northern part of the country. The beauty lies in the hidden quality of the Castle, which tempts us to climb the mountain swiftly.
It is located 25 kilometers from the Gilan province, making it difficult to reach. However, transportation is available to reach the ancient castle. The hike to the Castle starts with pebble-studded passageways and mossy rocks along a river stream, giving a photogenic location. There are about thousand or more steps to reach the Castle, but the view at the top is worth the effort. The path leads through the jungle and is clearly marked for guiding people in the right direction.
