Bunaken

Bunaken has a quite stunning biodiversity including:

Almost 70 different genera of coral
five species of sea turtle
an extraodinary range of fish
white tip and black tip reef-sharks 
wonderful resident dugongs
barracuda and tuna make regular appearences 
occasionally saltwater crocodiles

Bunaken takes about 30 to 60 minutes by boat from Manado. 

There are 4 public boats as follows:
Stella Maris, Batera, Sumber and Karunia that leave daily except Sundays at 2:00 p.m. from the harbor "Kalimas", behind the Celebes Hotel.
The cost of the ticket is Rp 50,000 one way for tourists and Rp 20,000 for locals living on the island.
It returns to Manado from the jetty in Bunaken village (in front of Arto Moro Bunaken) or from the beach in front of the church at 9:00 a.m. every morning except on Sundays. Location of departure is depending on the tide.

If held up for time, you can take a private boat to Bunaken Island from the Manado harbor (Kalimas, behind the Celebes Hotel.)

• Do not miss out scuba diving and snorkeling here, as Bunaken, is one of the top scuba diving destinations in Indonesia where people from all around the world come here to dive 
• Do note that the fee is not automatically levied upon entrance to the park but it is the responsibility of all visitors to pay it
• When you pay the entrance fee, you will receive a waterproof plastic tag that must be carried at all times
• Do note that spot checks are often made by the patrol boats
• Do keep a look out if walking along the coastline because when the high tide rolls in the beach may disappear
• There are Ojeks that are the motorised from of transport to take you around the island but we recommend  walking, as you will get to know the island better on foot
• Do try the local spirit Cap Tikus that is a distilled palm wine and is nice to have with a slice of lemon
• Stay safe by easily avoiding the venomous marine critters.
• Look out and be aware of the stinging jellyfish that are found during the change of the seasons in spring and autumn
• As there is no natural potable water on Bunaken, insist on bottled water at all times and also see to it, that coffee and tea is made with bottled water
