Imagine getting the opportunity to stand in the center of the world, where ancient Gods were believed to have stood centuries before! Located on Mt. Parnassus near the Gulf of Corinth, there is an ancient Greek sanctuary that was believed to be the center of the world. It is marked by the omphalos (or navel) stone monument in Delphi.
As per Greek mythology, Zeus released one eagle to the east and another one to the west. And, it was at Delphi that the eagles met after encircling the whole world.
Formerly known as Pytho, this popular religious sanctuary grew in fame as the house of the beloved oracle of Apollo. The oracle was famous for consultations regarding crucial ancient classical world decisions. The oracle was also known to offer cryptic predictions to individuals and city-states alike. Who can resist the charm and allure of such a place?
Once in Delphi, walking is the only means of transportation required as the museum and archaeological site are both in walking distance from the town. Taxis are readily available, if required.
