In today’s world, visiting an actual palace is nothing short of a dream come true moment. For this reason, without any further ado, visit the city of Corfu in Greece. The gorgeous Achilleion palace was built in the Gastouri village, by the Empress Elizabeth of Austria in 1890. The property originally held the “Villa Vraila,” and belonged to the diplomat and philosopher Petros Vrailas Armenis.
The Empress is said to have fallen in love with the philosopher and his property, which the latter gave to her as a present. The simple villa was demolished to build the spell-binding Achilleion Palace. She is said to have overlooked the decoration of the palace herself.
Another interesting aspect of this mesmerizing palace is that it is dedicated to the mythical hero Achilles. Who can resist the pull of such a historically significant and appealing place?
