If you’re taking a day trip from Berlin to Potsdam, don’t miss the Sanssouci palace and park. The palace and park are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sanssouci Palace was completed in 1747, and was the summer home of Frederick the Great. Over a 20-year period, the Sanssouci palace and gardens have been painstakingly restored. Sanssouci Palace is small as far as palaces go, but its gardens and Sanssouci Park make up for what the palace lacks in grandeur. There are a number of sites to see in Sanssouci Park that will keep you there all day, and might even draw you back for more. Be sure to see the New Palace (Neues Palais), Orangery Palace, Neue Kammern, the Picture Gallery, the historic windmill, the Chinese House, Charlottenhof Manor, the Roman Baths, the Church of Peace, The Belvedere on Klausberg, and the Norman tower on the Ruinenberg. |
