The Parque Colon is considered as the city's historic site. It is a very popular place among both tourists and locals. This park has a Christopher Columbus statue, made by French sculptor Ernest Gilbert in the late 19th century. You get to see lovely architectural views around the place. The pigeons are an attraction among visitors here. You can have a peaceful time feeding pigeons, while sitting on the several benches located here for the visitors. There are lovely centuries-old shady banyan trees all around the park. Just sit back and take in the culture and ambience here, and in doing so you get to see some very interesting aspects and observations of Santo Domingo and Dominican life. This is a lively place where live bands often perform different Spanish songs. Don't miss out on getting your portrait drawn by famous artists here.
