Salt
The British army used this castle for storing salt. Originally, a Byzantine fortress, razed and rebuilt during the Ottoman rule, now only the Frankish towers and the underground cells remain. The Byzantines built this impressive structure primarily to protect the harbor. Over the ages, the castle has served as a fortress and a prison. It is connected to the harbor by an arched bridge. The view from the roof is amazing. Also, worth it are the many festivals held in front of it throughout the year. Of particular interest is the Paphos Cultural Festival held in the month of September. This castle is considered to be an emblem of the Paphos district - well-deserving of a pleasant evening stroll. However, it is not accessible by wheelchairs.
The distance from Nicosia city center to this castle is 153.3 km. The bus will take you there in 3 hours. One-way ticket starts from 8 EUR.
A private car will reach you there in 2 hours with rentals starting from 16 EUR.
