Not a pinch of salt
But loads of it in four lakes that flow into each other to form the second largest salt lake in Cyprus. A leisurely stroll in the fading hues of a tranquil sunset would do you good. Or you could listen to a winter sonata when the pink flamingos sing aloud, play and engage in a ritual mating dance in the center of the lake. Up above are clear blue skies with clouds gently sailing by. Far beyond are rolling hills that bask in the warmth of a mellow sun. The curse of Saint Lazarus on being refused food and wine by an old woman or salty sea water penetrating the porous rock between the lake and the sea - whatever the reason, this place is now a serene haven for bird and man alike. This is one of the most important wetlands of Cyprus. It has been declared as a Natura 2000 site. On one of its shores, is Hala Sultan Tekke, a shrine and mosque, revered and visited often by people of all religions. Meanwhile, if it's winter, you know where to head to.
