There is a popular Chilean song that says Valdivia’s water is where the moon bathes. Well, the writer of the song was right, as there is a magical charm about this city. Valdivia is named after Santiago, the first governor of Chile Pedro de Valdivia.
The town is situated in the south of Chile and is the capital city of the Los Rios region. Surrounded by forts, it has become one of the main tourist attraction sites in the area. The town is famous for being in the middle of native forests which are highly noticeable for their lively vegetation and fauna. Thanks to the promenades-like coastal-road near the Calle Calle River, you can relax and enjoy the landscapes. You will also get an opportunity to luxuriate in traditional gastronomy, sea lions, and handicrafts.
If you have not yet had enough of this town, you can still board a riverboat. The trip will take around 6 hours as the boat will move around channels to make a full tour from Valdivia to the forts of Corral. After every stop of the trip, you are allowed to walk around the forts and relax. The most exciting part about this tour is that you will come across the ships that sunk in the 1960 tsunami.
If you are a “foodie,” Valdivia will as well not disappoint; it is home to the tastiest meals and drinks ever prepared. With the availability of the food market, you can taste the traditional Chilean cuisine and the local produce, which has a wide variety of delicious fresh fish.
Take a taxi from Valdivia Airport. You will cover a distance of 32 kilometers in 31 minutes and pay between 12 to 15 dollars
Alternatively, you can take a bus and get there in 30 min, which will cost you 2 dollars
You can also walk on foot and be there in 39 minutes
