About Stanley Park

The highlight of Vancouver sightseeing, the park is built upon acres and acres of land housing its own aquarium and nature center. Stanley Park with all its grandeur and beauty is the perfect family tourist location. One of the oldest tourists spots in Vancouver, Stanley Park has an identity all its own. With huge walkways perfect for those long walks, the park holds several locations of historical importance. The park in the heart of the central city is by far the most accessible tourist location in all Vancouver, a place that cannot and should not be avoided. A verdant, lush green space right in the heart of the city. Replete with scenic water views, swimming pool, the Stanley Park train with its myriad of fun-filled and season-specific activities, biking, ecology walking trails, guided history tours, there are so many exciting things to see and do all at one great location. Can one ask for more?

Come to Vancouver and spend a day in Stanley Park. It is a natural park, unlike the landscaped urban areas of most cities. Like the Stanley Cup, it was named after Lord Stanley, 16th Earl of Derby, who had just been made Governor General. The land was originally home to Indigenous tribes before the gold rush, was one of the first areas to be explored in the area, and became Vancouver’s first park. The 1,001 acres border downtown, and is almost entirely surrounded by the Vancouver Harbour and English Bay.

Of the half million trees in the park, some are as tall as 249 feet and are hundreds of years old. Explore the forest on your own, take the miniature Stanley Park Train, or be mesmerized on a horse-drawn carriage tour. The original inhabitants of the park tell their stories in totem poles. Can you read them?  The Vancouver Seawall, where thousands of people walk, cycle, or jog the longest uninterrupted waterfront pathway, goes through Stanley Park. Go for a stroll along it to the beaches, lakes, playgrounds, and the Vancouver Aquarium. Don’t just look at the marine life from behind glass, get up close and personal with behind-the-scenes encounters with sea otters, dolphins, and penguins.

Rated one of the top parks in the world, you’re sure to leave with big smiles!
