About Marc Chagall Museum

This museum is located in Vitebsk, Belarus that is the hometown of the famous painter Marc Chagall. It was established in 1997 and it depicts the household items and the personal belongings of the artist in the 19th century.  The walls of the museum are lined up with the artistic drawings of Marc Chagall which is an important characteristic of the place.
The place is situated on The famous house in Pokrovskaya Street, on the right bank of the Western Dvina River. Here, in the house built by his father,  the artist spent the years of his childhood and adolescence. During the wars, bombs and fire breakout damaged the buildings severely, but it survived all that.
After a period of renovation, the building was converted in the Marc Chagall Museum, as a homage to the great artists, in 1997. It consists of document archives, first works of the artist, personal belongings, and family heirlooms as a witness to his life. Although there is not much interior design left, the renovation successfully captured and preserved the early twentieth-century vibe. The renovations were based on the drawings of Marc Chagall’s drawings of the interior of this house.
As an expansion to this, the Marc Chagall Art Center was built later. On the 115th anniversary of the painter, a scientific library was also established. The museum also consists of a theatre with tall stained glass windows and a piano that adds to the charm of the European ambiance. Small vibrant lively paintings and a waterfall mosaic fountain also increase the beauty of the place.
This museum turns out to be a world cultural center to attract various artists, writers, musicians, scientists by hosting various events throughout the whole year. If you want to know about Marc Chagall’s unique works and paintings, then this museum is the best place to visit in Belarus. It also organizes exhibitions of artistic drawings and sculptures by other Belarusian and foreign artists to glorify the evolution of the country and its culture.
