One such example is the Iguazu Falls. It is no wonder that this beauty is part of UNESCO’s World Heritage site and one of the Seven Wonders of Nature!
The Iguazu river flows on the border between Argentina and Brazil. And it is the water of this river that cascades down to form the most spectacular sights of one’s life. It is the largest waterfall system in the entire world. Straddling both Brazil and Argentina, this mesmerizing waterfall stretches almost 3 km. When in close proximity to the waterfalls, one can feel the full weight of its power, scale, and allure.
You can even take a helicopter ride to get a bird’s eye view of this humongous natural reserve.
The Foz do Iguaçu, or Iguaçu Falls, are Nature’s amazing display of water power. They get their name from a Guarani or Tupi Indian word that means “big water.” Fitting, because the Falls are 80 m (262 feet) high and cover 3 kilometres (2 miles) in length.
It is not just one waterfall, but 275 falls between the Argentinian and Brazilian border. They are the largest waterfall system in the world. The Iguaçu Falls lie deep in the heart of the sub-tropical rainforest of the Iguaçu National Park. The best-known of the falls is the Devil’s Throat, which dumps 20,000 tons of water per second over the cliff-side. The spray mists over the tourists brave enough to venture out along the boardwalk.
Local legends say that the Iguaçu Falls were created by an angry God who cut the river in half over his lost love. She ran away with someone else and the waterfalls the God created sentenced them to fall forever.
Whether you believe the story or not, the Iguaçu Falls offer spectacular views of nature not seen anywhere else in the world. Maybe you’ll be like the conquistador who discovered the Falls and find something magical of your own.
