Mỹ Sơn is entirely unique in Southeast Asia. The spot is a sanctuary of Hindu temples constructed between the 4th and 14th centuries. As with most such temples, they are dedicated to the God Shiva.
The temples are a religious and political example of the Champa Kingdom which had its roots in India Hinduism. These monuments and towers have special significance, as they symbolically represent the sacred mountain of Mount Meru on Earth.
Visitors can wander the cobblestoned walkways around the brick and stone pillars, embellished with sandstone depictions of Hindu mythology. Of the original 68 buildings, only 20 remain. Most were destroyed during the Vietnam War. The jungle is also playing its part in hiding this treasure from the world.
My Son is 32.5 km from the city center of Duy Xuyun.
