About Lviv National Art Gallery

Who wouldn’t want to see the largest museum of art in Ukraine? Especially one with a wide array of sculptures, paintings, and graphic art from the Middle Ages to modern times of Western and Eastern Europe. If this sounds like heaven to you, then you should definitely check out the Lviv National Art Gallery.

 

There is something here for all tastes. In fact, the Gallery is said to have the largest collection of Austrian art of the Baroque era in entire Europe! Created by the most mysterious artist of the European art world, the painting “At the Moneylender’s” is also on display at the Gallery. This painting, by Georges de La Tour, is the only one of its kind available in Ukraine.

 

The Lviv National Art Gallery boasts of having paintings by French, German, Dutch, and Spanish artists as well. In fact, one of the best examples of the Late Gothic style can be seen in the painting of the three saints - Mary Magdalene, Odilia, and Clare. It has been created in the 15th Century by a German master whose identity is a mystery in itself!

How to reach

The museum is located in the city center.
Go by tram line 1 from the railway station to Kopernyk street, the museum is located nearby the main post office. 
From the city center, by car turn on to Doroshenko street and go straight on till the main post office, then turn left and go down along Kopernyk street till the turn to Stefanyk street. 

Tips

Photography is allowed without a flash.
Two displays available (regular and periodic), each ticketed separately.
Leave your garments or other large things at the cloakroom on the left.
Visit the area with a tour guide to know more about the art.
There is only stair access to the upper floors.
The toilets are located on the lower ground floor.
Don't forget to carry your camera to capture the amazing view.
Carry an ample amount of water to avoid dehydration.
Wear comfortable shoes.
