About Oresund Bridge

A modern engineering marvel that connects two cities in two different countries? You heard that right. The Oresund Bridge does just that, connecting Copenhagen in Denmark and Malmo in Sweden. It is 16 km long and includes a road and rail link. That isn't it- it is divided into three sections - the bridge, an artificial island Peberholm, and a tunnel. If you are traveling to both Sweden and Denmark, there is absolutely no way that you should miss using this bridge. Stop and marvel at the feat of human achievement. You'll notice that the tunnel rises out of the sea over which the bridge is built. If you are flying out of Copenhagen, then you'll also get a rather special ariel view of this structure. Thanks to the bridge itself, the Swedish area of Malmo has also developed significantly, with a variety of tourist spots, restaurants overlooking the bridge and more. The other amazing thing? Most of the parts of this bridge such as the cable ties and piers were built on land and were affixed in place later using floating cranes.

How to reach

By bus:

Take bus line 4 from Malmö Gustav Adolfs torg to Malmö Hammars Parkväg. It'll cover 9.2 km in 21 minutes and costs 21 SEK. Then take a taxi from Malmö Hammars Parkväg to Øresund Bridge, which cover 40.3 km in 28 minutes and costs 700 SEK.

Tips

  • By way of CCTV cameras and automatic alarm systems, the controllers continually monitor traffic and are prepared for any emergency. It's best to be aware if you're driving by yourself.
  • The speed limit on the motorway is usually 90 km per hour in the tunnel and 110 km per hour elsewhere on the link. Please make a note of that if you're driving by yourself.
  • Foreigners crossing the bridge should carry ID, since the bridge goes to a different country.
  • In the event of an emergency, assistance can be summoned through the emergency telephones located along the link. The tunnel is equipped with emergency exits as well as alarm cabinets at intervals of 88 metres, which contain emergency telephones, fire extinguishers and fire alarms.
  • Use a bus for crossing the bridge. You can see beautiful views of the bridge and around.
  • You can decrease the toll booth cost of crossing the bridge by applying for the Bropass. You can purchase this on their website.
