The Abisko National Park is the crowning jewel of Lapland, Sweden. Not only is the park a hotspot for tourists, lovers of nature and hikers, it also attracts a lot of those with a scientific bent of mind. This is further fortified by the Abisko Scientific Research Station located inside the park. The lakes and river within the park will leave you in awe, as will the variety of vegetation and wildlife. The activities in the park will change as per the season. However, if you are there during the Northern Lights season, definitely head to the Abisko Aurora Sky Station at night for the world's best view of the Northern lights, along with a spectacular gourmet meal. With the right gear for the cold, you can also enjoy activities such as Husky sled rides, snowboarding, and sledding. Also, enjoy the bonfires and cinnamon buns with your local guides in the park. During summer, be sure to see the midnight sun. The famous hiking trail Kungsleden also ends here at this park.
By train:
Both European route 10 and the railway go through the national park. The railway station in the national park is called Abisko Turist. Take the train from Kiruna station to Abisko Östra station. It'll cover 78 km in 1 hour 26 minutes and costs between 40 to 260 SEK.
By bus:
Take the bus from Kiruna Busstation to Abisko östra. It'll cover 93.3 km in 1 hour 10 minutes and costs between 160 to 200 SEK. Or take the bus from Kiruna bus station to Abisko Turiststation. It'll cover 95.9 km in 1 hour 15 minutes and costs between 90 to140 SEK.
