The Raffles is one of the oldest luxury hotels in Singapore. Due to how long it has been there, it is considered as one of the most prestigious colonial style hotels in the country. The hotel is named after Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, the British founder of modern Singapore. Currently, the hotel is under restoration, and will re-open in August 2019. In 2017, it won the Best Heritage Hotel award by Tripzilla magazine. The hotel has a variety of stately suites and its doormen are widely photographed for their colonial attire. The hotel is also famous for being the very place where Singapore's national drink, Singapore Sling was apparently invented. There is also a Raffles Arcade for your shopping interests. The Bar and Billiard room at the Raffles is also known to house its rather high-profiled guests. The Singapore government has declared it as a national monument due to its rich history and presence. The hotel also served as a setting for Ryu Murakami's famous book, Raffles Hotel. The film adaptation of the book was also shot in the hotel itself, so be sure to carry a copy of the book or watch the film there for an ultimate pop-culture experience.
