Sometimes fiction can be larger than fact. This is truly the case with Bran Castle in Transylvania. Known the world over as Dracula’s Castle, Bram Stoker’s vampire story made this castle famous.
Other than Stoker’s description of the castle high in the mountains of Romania, there is little about Bran Castle. Vlad III, also known as the “Impaler” did not live here. He may have been imprisoned here in 1462 by the Hungarians, but there are no written historical documents to support this.
Whatever visitors may choose to believe, Bran Castle is a museum that exhibits furniture and art collected by Queen Marie. She was the last queen of Romania and wielded power over her husband King Ferdinand I. Marie was much-loved by the Romanian people, and Bran Castle was her favourite. The displays within the castle honour her strength and popularity.
Take a tour of Queen Marie’s and “Count Dracula’s” castle on a guided tour or on your own.
Both fact and fiction make Bran Castle the place worthy of a visit.
