How about travelling to the end of the world? Or at least that’s what the people of the 14th century considered the Cabo de São Vicente to be – the end of the known world. The Cape St. Vincent is located on the extreme southwestern end of Portugal and even mainland Europe! If nothing else, this fact alone warrants a definite visit to this popular lighthouse. Standing proudly atop the hill, the lighthouse is 75 meters above sea level. This is the country’s most powerful lighthouse and can be seen about 50 km out to sea. One can only begin to imagine the picturesque sunrises and sunsets from this location! The beautiful red lighthouse comprises of a small museum that illustrates the role played by Sagres in the maritime history of the country. Although the museum itself is very small and shouldn’t take more than 30 mins to visit, the location and panoramic view of the sea is a sight to behold. Located in the Vila do Bispo town, it is 6 km northwest of the town center of Sagres. Built-in 1846, the headland was constructed on the wrecks of a Saint Vicente monastery. The bones of the saint were found on the cliffs, and the monastery was built as a tribute to him.
It is 333.12 km away from the city center. Take a bus from Lagos to Sagres and then walk to reach Cape Saint.
The bus will cost you €2.85.
You can also take a private cab which will cost you €40.00- €60.85 depending upon the traffic.
