Historical Ship Museum, also known as “Museum of Historic Boats” was made to incorporate valuable cultural and historical things of the late 1800s and early 1900s. The place is dedicated to the rubber boom period, history of geographers, and explorers. Here, you will find the gadgets, maps, photographs, and many other things of those peoples who lived during the boom period. There are several boats, each of them already been used during the rubber boom for the transportation of rubber to Iquitos and Manus pulling a massive growth in the economy. Those workers who worked on these boats had keenly devoted themselves to navigating Amazon. But, then a drastic fall in the price of rubber caused the entire economy of the area to fall. Today, these people are honoured and praised by the visitors who come to see them and hear their stories. The museum permits locals as well as foreigners to take a look and learn the history of these boats.
Out of several that sailed across the Amazon and territories, the boat named Ayupua collected the valuable rubber and exported them to the parts of Europe and North America. This particular boat, manufactured in Hamburg, Germany has been restored in detail to its Victorian magnificence, a proof to the elegance of the rubber boom period.
The Ayupua, a three-deck riverboat resting alongside the riverfront of Amazon, brilliantly depicts the glory of the period. Taking a tour of Ayupua will feed you with incredible facts about Amazonian History.
It will create an unfairness to leave Iquitos without visiting this place.
