About Fiordland National Park

Known for glacier-carved fiords of Doubtful and Milford sounds, the national park was established in 1952. Waterfalls tumbling hundreds of feet, snow-capped mountains and glittering lakes are sure to enthral the tourists of all age groups. The park is spread over 1.2 million hectares and the variety of habitats support a diverse range of flora and fauna. You can find plants and animals unique to this area. The park is committed to preserving unique and endangered wildlife and its Takahe Recovery Programme is a part of this. Believed to be extinct, this member of the rail family was re-discovered in the Murchison Mountains in 1948. Discover some of the unique marine life like Black Corals. On the whole, experience heaven on earth with mountain peaks, glimmering fiords, icy lakes and rivers winding its way through the native forest.  The Te Wahipounamu in the South-West has lent the park an international World Heritage status. The park is a photography enthusiast’s haven.

How to reach

Bus ride from the City Centre would take roughly 5 and half hours which will cost you approx. 24 NZ$ to 60 NZ$

There are plenty of rent - a - car agencies from Dunedin Airport charging about 90 NZ$ per trip

  • For a better understanding of the place. it is advisable to take help of the tourist guide 
  • Since New Zealand is in the southern Hemisphere therefore please be careful with the weather around 
  • Always carry an umbrella with you.
  • Remember June and July Months are very cold therefore please take ample care
  • Take a change of clothing with you always in case you get wet due to sudden change in weather
  • You need not bring food from outside as good restaurants are there in the area
  • Wear very comfortable shoes as you have three finest walks of the world to walk along
