Named after Abel Tasman, the first European explorer to discover New Zealand, this national park is located at the north end of the South Island between Golden Bay and Tasman bay. The park was inaugurated on the 300th anniversary of Abel Tasman’s visit on 18th December 1942. Though it is New Zealand’s smallest national park, it’s perfect for relaxation and adventure.
Whether you are looking for a lazy beach holiday or are an adventure lover, the Abel Tasman National Park is a perfect blend of both. Choose to walk along this coastal paradise or cruise through its famous coast track to explore the place. The luxurious lodges offer a home-away-from-home experience; however, the true spirit of Abel Tasman is in spending the night under the stars. Indulge in a wide range of activities like hiking, paddling, swimming, sedate snorkelling and many more. The more laid-back ones can go for sunbathing, water taxi and more. Native wildlife is abundant in the form of Tui, bellbirds, little blue penguins and many more.
