About Blue Penguin Colony

Discover the penguins in their natural habitat and also be captivated by the nature. You can choose to visit the penguins in their nest during the daytime or watch them as they return from the sea at sunset. Choose from a range of guided and interactive tours available. Learn more and contribute to our conservation and research programs.

How to reach

It is just a 20 minutes walk from the city centre 

Taxi will take 5 to 7 minutes and will cost you abiut 10 NZ$

Tips

  • Blue Penguins are active only at night.
  • They arrive only after sundown, therefore the best viewing time will be after 6:30 p.m.
  • Since the penguins are at sea for the most part of the time, therefore, it is not always sure whether you will be able to see them
  • There is a Children's area too morning viewing time starts at 10:00 am and continues up to dusk
  • Photography without flash is allowed only in the colony and not at all in the viewing room
  • There are lots of interesting exhibitions on Penguins in the gallery which one can have a look
  • There is  language support in the form of written texts in seven International languages
