The Netherlands is a country full of exemplary legends recognized for their individual contributions. Or for creating a platform to serve as a pedestal for others to view the traditional and modern in a completely new light. How many institutes can boast of making such a deep impact on the perception of today’s generation? One such institute is the Frans Hals Museum in the Netherlands.
Built-in 1862, the Frans Hals Museum is situated in the historic city of Haarlem. It mainly houses the artistic creations of the Golden Age master, Frank Hals. This is one of the oldest museums in the country. The Frans Hals Museum was divided into two locations, which are called Hal and Hof. The distance between these two locations is a short, picturesque walk through the beautiful city. The Hof building boasts of a collection of 17th Century creations by various masters including the ‘House Master’ Frank Hals. On the other hand, the Hal building is home to various modern and contemporary artworks of the 20th and 21st centuries. The amalgamation of the old and new is what makes the Frans Hals Museum one of its kind.
In 2018, there was a merger between the Frans Hals Museum and the De Hallen Haarlem to join hands and go forward under one name. What these museums want to portray is the continuous story of the history of art. They want to unite different styles, eras, or movements, to form a seamless connection. The museums intend to host various such “transhistorical” exhibitions at both the locations and combine the old and the new. This will be an interesting exhibition to reminiscence for years to come!
