About World Peace Pagoda

Built by Japanese Buddhists, the brilliantly constructed US $1Million World Peace Pagoda is an amazing attraction to see. The Pagoda, designed to promote peace and foster stronger unity within the human race after innocent lives were lost during the World War sits on the top of a hill and provides an exceptional view of Pokhara to visitors and tourists. With its shiny-white colour and golden Buddha statue and surrounded by stunning mountains, including the Himalayas, Annapurna and beautiful lakes; the World Peace Pagoda displays amazing radiance and proffers hope to humanity. 


Living true to its name and standing at an altitude of almost 1000m, the environment around the World Peace Pagoda is peaceful, serene and makes for good relaxation spots. After being opened for public visits in 1999, the World Peace Pagoda has amassed hundreds of thousands of tourists from different continents. Surrounded by mountains and lakes, three parts leads to it but you can be assured that every one of the paths is worth taking as you can have a view of everything you want to see via any of the paths. Taking a long hike to enjoy the beautiful sights in the environment is advisable but you can also take a drive so you would not have to hike for long. The sunrise and sunset are usually beautiful and every tourist should have a view early in the morning or as it approaches evening and you can take as many pictures as you want from the top and also have a view of the snow mountains.

 
The Pagoda also has a staircase that takes you up to different places around the area. A clear view of the Crane sanctuary can be seen when at the top of the cliff, which serves as a habitat for native Sarus cranes in the area. You can easily spot the Sarus cranes and there are about 100 of them living in the sanctuary. One may also visit the Mahadev temple. Close to the foot is the grave of the Japanese Buddhist killed by anti-Buddhists when the site was being constructed. You can also enjoy the view of the Feiwa lake. Explore the ways of living around the hills, boating in the lake and hiking to the World Peace Pagoda. How to reach

By Boat:

You can rent a boat from the Lakeside in Pokhara and row yourself to the shore beneath the Pagoda or have someone  do it for you

It takes about 40 to 50 minutes to climb to the top of the hill when you drop off from the boat

It costs around 1200 rupees return fare to row a boat and also 50 rupees for a life jacket

By Bus:

You can take a bus from the Pokhara lakeside to Chhorepatan and then take the route to the hill all the way to the Pagoda

The bus usually cost around 5 rupees

By Taxi:

A taxi can be hired that will take you to the Pagoda. This costs about 1000 rupees

For a taxi to take you to and from the Pagoda, it will cost 1500 rupees

 

Tips

  • Take caution as the road that leads to the Pagoda might sometimes be muddy and slippery
  • The roads can also get dusty and very hot so it is advisable to have good shoes and airy clothe on
  • It is not advisable to go alone as the roads to and from the Pagoda hardly have any lighting
  • Be prepared to climb some stairs
  • Try the meals at the restaurants around
  • Lots of small grocery and coffee shops
  • You can enjoy the view of the Pagoda from the restaurants around
  • The best time to have a view of the Annapurna Mountains is very early in the morning
  • The Taal Barhai Temple can be visited when returning from the Pagoda
  • Maintain silence in the premises of the Pagoda
  • Walking to the Pagoda will take a minimum 20 minutes
  • The best time to visit is between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
