About Central Market Kuala Lumpur

A common meet up point in almost all countries, the place to experience local culture and walk among the crowds would be its market. It is here that locals and tourists connect over the nation’s rich culture, experience the local produce, fashion and small trinkets that are unique to a region. Locals proudly display their wares and share their stories with the world. The central market is usually the heart of the city in which it is located and one such example is the Central Market in Kuala Lumpur. This market is a well-known landmark for the culture and heritage of the country of Malaysia. More so, it is considered to be a heritage site. It was built in 1888 and originally functioned as a wet market. You can find everything right from authentic Malaysian souvenirs like handicrafts, batik, and songket to art and cultural events. Tips

  • There are shops who are located near each other but their items already have price differences. Before buying anything look around the shops to compare the prices and when you found the one you like, you can still try and make a deal.
  • Remember to take water with you as it can be very hot.
  • Hand yourself a drink to bring around, keeping you hydrated as you explore the place!
  • Best visited at afternoon-evening.
  • The toilets on level two of this building cost 0.50 ringgit which is so worth it. Very very clean toilets.
  • Do not miss the fish pedicure inside Central Market.
  • To buy apparel, just go upstairs where the t-shirts are cheaper and look marginally better than the ones downstairs. They also have lots of batiks and other local types of apparel there, not just Malaysian but also Indonesian and Chinese.
  • Cafe opens on Sundays too but needs to call first to make a reservation for a table.
