Sun Yat-Sen, the Father of Modern China, was a Chinese politician and leading person of the National Party of China (Kuomintang). He was known as the “Father of the Nation” for his pivotal role during the Xinhai Revolution (1911) in overthrowing the Qing dynasty. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial House is a tribute to pay homage to the main person behind the revolution. Built-in the year 1912, the house was previously known as “Mansion of Sun” and it was the residence of Sun Yat Sen’s first wife, Lu Muzhen. Later, in 1933, the house was remodelled and renamed as Sun Yat-Sen Memorial House. It is home to the leader’s photographs, letters, personal belongings, and other things.
The design of the memorial house was chosen from a public contest. It was designed by the architect Wang Ta-hung and some part of modifications performed by Chiang Kai-shek, whose funeral also took place in the hall. The house is surrounded by a beautiful well-maintained garden of 110,000 square meters where visitors can spend a relaxing time. The hall is also a venue of Taiwan’s Golden Horse Awards for the years, which is considered similar to the Oscar. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial House is also referred to as the second-best place to see the changing of the guards. The ceremony takes place every day between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and lasts about an hour.
