About Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium

Situated in Piraeus, this football stadium is the home ground of Olympiacos. It comes with a whopping capacity of 33,334 seats! So much so that, the stadium is considered to be the biggest stadium solely dedicated to the game of football in the country of Greece. This stadium was constructed at the same location as the old Karaiskakis Stadium in Greece. After construction of over a year, it opened its doors to the public in 2004. More so, it is said to be one of the stadiums occupied for the 2004 Olympics.

How to reach

Karaikakis Stadium is situated in south-western Athens, a suburb of Piraeus. It is on the edge of Piraeus city centre and about 2.5 kilometres east of the port. It is about 7 kilometres away from Central Athens.

Athens Airport (ATH) to Karaiskakis Stadium can be reached  by subway, bus, taxi, car or town car
Subway M3 or M1 cost:10 €  takes 1 hour
Bus X96 cost 6€ and the journey takes 1 hour and 30 minutes
Taxi cost 75€ to 95€  takes 37 minutes

To reach the stadium take metro line 1 (green), which connects with Athens city centre and the Piraeus port. Get down at Metro station Faliro, that is situated next to the stadium.

Bus numbers 040, 101, 130 and the X95 all stop near the stadium.

Tips

  • The Georgios stadium had easy access and it is comfortable to get around in the stadium.
  • Fans, traveling from abroad should heed the advice given by police about traveling and stay safe.
  • It is easy to watch football games from almost any place in the stadium.
  • Do not be surprised at the ticket prices, because prices can fluctuate wildly especially during the home matches.
  • It is advisable for tourists to carry the passport, in case asked by the authorities. 
  • Want to have a bite, no worries, there is a restaurant known as Vamos, in the stadium.
  • When in Greece and there’s an Olympiacos match, don’t miss the opportunity to watch,  if you get this chance. Well worth the money spent.

As of now, looks like fans are not offered a chance to take a stadium tour of Georgios Karaiskakis.
The next best thing for football fans here is that they can visit the club’s museum.

The timings for the club is as follows:
Sunday:          11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Monday:          Closed
Tuesday:        10:00 a.m. to  6:00 p.m.
Wednesday:   10:00 a.m. to  6:00 p.m.
Thursday:       10.00 a.m. to  6.00 p.m.
Friday:            10.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m.
Saturday:        11.00 a.m. to  3.00 p.m.

On days of the match: 30 minutes before kick-off.

Tickets for games here can be purchased online, or it can be purchased at the ticket office in the Karaiskakis Stadium. Tickets can be bought at the ticket windows of the stadium on the day of the match.

Ticket prices varies and it is not fixed. For matches the prices typically range from €10.00 to €30.00.
