About York Minster

The York Minster has been standing tall over the city of York since the 7th century. Arguably, one of the most magnificent churches of the world, the Minster's elements all come together to tell the story of Jesus Christ. The Gothic Cathedral was also a central fixture of the Roman Empire, for a moment in time. The West and East windows of the main tower are rather popular, as is the Rose Window of the South. When visiting this cathedral, spend some time taking a guided tour of its various sections, admire its architecture and the evolution of the building itself. Also, learn about its rich and varied history. During the day, there are also Crypt and Undercroft tours offered on the grounds, so do take advantage of that. The stained glass windows and the Astronomical Clock are also awe-inspiring. The cathedral also has a massive organ that is played during regular services. Often, the York Mystery plays are performed, by special permission, inside the cathedral. If you have a chance to catch this performance, do not let it go. If you climb the central tower, you will also get some stunning panoramic views of the entire York city.
