Welcome to the most mysterious and well-developed stone circle in the world, the Stonehenge. The Stonehenge is a circular arrangement of standing stones, each over 13 feet high and 7 feet wide. The stones are said to be standing over a complex burial ground from the Neolithic Period. The circles stand perfectly over the axis of the Midsummer sunrise. Studies believe that the circle was either used as an observatory for astronomy, or as a holy site for rituals pertaining to the sun and the dead. You will find out so much more about the site, its origins and its theories at the Visitor Centre by the site, or on its guided audio tours. A truly awe-inspiring sight, especially if you visit during the sunrise or the sunset. You can also explore the area of the British countryside around the monument. What's more, once you are there, do not forget to try the famous Stonehenge Rock Cakes as well as a drink made at the Stonehenge Brewery. If you are really intrigued, do try and get Stone Circle Access passes, which will allow you to walk inside the stone circle. This way, you will experience the great mysticism of the stones up close and personally.
