About Pyramid of Khafre

The 'Pyramid of Khafre' is the second-largest and second tallest pyramid of Giza. Amongst fellow 'Ancient Egyptian Pyramids', Pyramid of Khafre stands 136 meters tall, with its base measuring 215.25 meters. It is also known as the 'Pyramid of Cepheren' and was built for 'Khafre', the third Pharoah during the 4th dynasty in 2570 BC. This was the time of the 'Old Kingdom Period of Ancient Egypt'. Khafre's pyramid is located in the backdrop of the 'Great Sphinx'.

The Pyramid was supposedly looted during the 'First Intermediate Period' which is also known as the 'Dark Period', and lasted more than 125 years after the Old Kingdom. The pyramid was first explored, in modern times, in 1818. The first modern-day person to enter and explore this pyramid was 'Belzoni', an Italian explorer. However, the first complete exploration of the pyramid was done in 1837. Today, Khafre's pyramid remains the best-preserved one. This is because of the cleverly placed casing stones at its base. Khafre lived during the so-called 'Golden Age' of the Old Kingdom and is believed to be the mastermind behind many of the monuments and constructions in Giza. The pyramids built by him and his family is known to be the best in the history of Egypt. The pyramid acts as a popular tourist spot in Egypt.

The distance between the pyramids located in Giza do not seem very long at first. But as you start moving from one pyramid to another, the journey seems like a never-ending one. The scorching, hot, sun blazes upon the desert area where you are walking. Luckily, there are camels and donkeys that you can ride to help make your journey less difficult. The structure of this pyramid is such that the stones of it were arranged according to size. Larger stones are present at the base, while smaller ones are at the top. While standing near the base of the pyramid of Khafre, if you look up, the gigantic structure seems to stand firm; trying to ignore its ancientness and flaunting its magnificence.
