About Kronborg Castle

Want to step right in history and literature in one go? You are at the right place. Kronborg Castle, a Renaissance castle is the stronghold of Denmark and is the castle that became the home of the Prince of Hamlet in The Tragedy of Prince Hamlet by William Shakespeare. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its magnificent spires and copper roof are a sight to behold. It sits on the edge of a water body and across that, you can see Sweden in all its grandeur. You can walk through the entire castle and its grounds, right down to the basement to Holger Danske. There are tourists guides available as well. If you are visiting in summer, be sure to catch many performances of Hamlet on the palace grounds by theatre groups and by the guides as well. If you're a Shakespeare enthusiast yourself, you could even stage a monologue yourself.
