The Valle de la Muerte, also known as the Mars Valley or the Death Valley, is a mountainous and sandy valley on the Atacama Desert. The valley looks like the celestial surface of Mars during the sunset, and hence, it is named the Mars Valley. The name “Death Valley” has a history behind it. In the past, when a French Astronomist came to the site, he pointed to saying “Mart” (alike mars surface), but the locals here thought that he was saying “Muerte” and they named it “Valle de la Muerte” which in Spanish stands for “Death Valley.”
Valle de la Muerte is filled with peculiar rock structures and formations with Salt Mountain Range in the background. It creates the perfect photogenic place for otherworldly photos in the vast barren land.
The Mars Valley is mainly famous for its trekking tours, Sandboarding, and horseback riding on the dunes that are refreshing and distinctive experiences on their own. The entire site is filled with beautiful structures and formations made of red rocks. It is said that the valley was eroded by water and wind for millions of years, resulting in the unique geological formations. The whole valley has numerous picture opportunities fulfilling the thirst of a photo enthusiast.
The weather is mostly warm throughout the year, with rarely 20 cloudy days. However, if by luck it rains during your visit, you can witness the rare phenomenon of a double rainbow on the exotic background location. The nights here are magnificent enough for observing the star-studded sky with other celestial bodies. The stunning landscapes, mesmerizing rock formations, and otherworldly glimpses would hypnotize one into settling forever.
