The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is the first national museum ever to be located outside of the national capital, in The Forks, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The museum opened in 2014 to expand visitors’ knowledge and understanding of human rights, and to encourage respect for others. This concept is truly Canadian at heart, so there isn’t a better site for a museum of this kind.
The elders from Thunderbird House inserted medicine bags into the foundation of the building, signifying respect for the Mother Earth. The museum is also the largest project created with alabaster, since the Hall of Hope was built with 15,000 alabaster tiles.
Discover the stories of struggles for freedom, stories of diversity, and stories from survivors in awe-inspiring galleries.
The museum encourages you to take part in something memorable and meaningful. Whether young or old, there’s something to learn.
The building itself is the main attraction.
