The small city of Tiradentes has a big reputation. Established in 1702, it was renamed from the original São José del Rey. It gets its name from a famous national hero, Joaquim José da Silva Xavier, who fought for Brazil’s independence.
Tiradentes is considered one of the best-preserved Portuguese colonial towns, despite its small size. The 300-year old town, surrounded by gardens and nestled in the mountains is the perfect getaway. Get lost wandering the streets and stop in at the Igreja Matriz de San Antônio, a church that will dazzle you with its white and gold exterior and interior. Find out how cachaça, a local Brazilian spirit, is made at the Mazuma Mineira. Take a stroll past the font Chafariz de São José. Don’t forget to pick up some fresh blooms for your sweetheart at the Largo das Forras.
This quaint and friendly city is waiting for your visit.
