How to reach

There are many ways of traveling to the Whitsunday Islands by air, car, train, bus, etc.

The most convenient way to travel to the region is by a flight to either the Proserpine (Whitsunday Coast) Airport or the Hamilton Island Airport and then ferrying across to the mainland.

Approximate flying time: Sydney to Airlie Beach - 2 hours 15 minutes. Brisbane to Airlie Beach - 1 hour 30 minutes. It costs around $ 292  to $ 705.

Tips

  • While you plan your trip to Whitsunday Islands there are a few things you may need to keep in mind.
  • You will get to see the famous photo of a reef shaped like a heart so please keep your cameras ready to capture some great scenic beauty.
  • There aren’t a whole lot of walking trails in the Whitsundays as it’s mostly a place for water-based activities so keep your swimsuits, flip flops, ready.
  • You get to experience a lot of activities here like snorkeling etc.
  • Be sure you have plenty of sunscreens, and stay as hydrated as possible. Bring mosquito repellant.
  • Make sure you are well aware of box jellyfish and the Irukandji as they are plentiful and can deliver a seriously painful sting. 
  • Please make sure you are safe and follow the safety rules when you are swimming.
