The loud crack and boom of large chunks of ice falling down a majestic glacier is quite an impressive sight. In fact, it would be a treasured memory for years to come. Don’t you agree? This is exactly what you can witness at the Los Glaciares National Park.
This immensely popular glacier park is in the Santa Cruz Province of the country of Argentina. There are numerous glacier fields in the park that warrant a definite visit. But some believe the most popular of the glaciers is the Perito Moreno Glacier.
It stretches for 30 km, with a height and width of 60 and 5 meters, respectively. In fact, every day, this glacier moves forward by 2 meters! This results in large chunks of ice breaking from its front wall. Imagine the experience of seeing this life in action!
Unlike popular belief, the Perito Moreno Glacier isn’t in the town that shares its name. The Perito Moreno town is about 600 km north of the famous glacier. The town that is closest to the glacier is the El Calafate. From here, there are numerous tours scheduled to visit the beloved glacier.
It is 80km from the town of El Calafate. Catch the bus from Jean Mermoz 104 towards the Perito Moreno Glacier. The bus ticket will cost you ARS 200 .
You can also hire a private cab, but it is usually very expensive.
