Tips

  • Below the lighthouse is a lovely bay and beach. You can go here and make a day of it.
  • Bring your own food and beverages as there are no nearby services.
  • You may want to make sure that your vehicle is not to low. The road leading to the lighthouse parking section is a dirt road full of large pot holes.
  • Check out the salt flats. On the way to the lighthouse, there is an area where they call the salt flats. This is where they extract the salt from the ocean, well the old ways of doing it. There these man made sections where the tides rise a night and fill it up with salt water and during the day the water evaporates and leaves the salt behind. Make sure to check it out.
  • Camera cleaning supplies. You will want to bring a camera for this trip, however bring a pen cleaner for the lens and sine microfiber cloths, it is windy and wind brings up a small mist of ocean water with salt particles, it will get on your lens, nothing worse like taking an amazing picture to realize there are spots on the final product and your now awesome shot looks worse than a teenager with bad acne.
  • Wear sunscreen. Between hiking up the hill and being mesmerized by the view, you will be there for a while and there are no trees to hide under at the top, so you will be exposed, add reflection from sand and water and you can get a killer burn, especially in mid day.
  • Walk some of the side trails. Don't just go up the hill and come back down. Heading up the hill to the lighthouse there are some trails to the right that go off the path, take those, you will be amazed at what you will see, one of them will lead you to a natural bridge formed by rocks, truly amazing.
  • Bring a bathing suit. That's right, to the left of the lighthouse there is a bay and it is a beach called Playa Sucia "Dirty Beach" it is wonderful, not dirty, it is called like that mostly because there is lots of algae.
