About The Achilleion

Currently operating as a museum under the management of Hellenic Tourism Development Company, this beautiful Achilleion Palace was built in the memory of the only son of Elisabeth of Austria. Located about 10 kilometres south of the city of Corfu, the summer palace provides a panoramic view of the city across the southern part of the island to the Ionian Sea. The building is considered as a monument to platonic romanticism and escapism is surrounded by classical Greek statues.  Designed by Italian architect Raffaele Caritto, the place depicts an ancient Pheacian palace.

The beautiful courtyard is adorned with the statues of ancient Greek mythology. Step into the garden and enjoy a scenic view of the surrounding green hills and valleys with the Ionian Sea in the background. This is one of the most royal mansions, which was sold to a German Kaiser Wilhelm in 1907. It went on to become a hub of European Diplomacy. His imposing bronze statue, built by the sculptor Johannes Gotz now guards the gardens.
