About Ashmolean Museum

Ashmolean Museum

Founded in the year 1683, the Ashmolean refers to the University of Oxford's museum of art and archaeology. Get a  glimpse of art from the world over ranging from the Egyptian mummies to quirky, contemporary art which transcends cultural and political boundaries as also those of time.

Be witness to the many free exhibitions and displays like that of 'The Naked Form In Modern Chinese Art', 'Lifelines-The Woodcuts of Naoka Matsubara', a Japanese artist based in Canada or 'A nice Cup of Tea?', to name a few. Also, get yourselves dirty and grimy and follow in the footsteps of the great artisans and sculptors with a 3-day course on sketching, modeling, molding and casting your own statue at the Learning Studio. Check out the special weekend celebration of all communities and faiths of Oxfordshire through a breathtaking display of performances, activities, talks and craft ideas at the Atrium and Galleries Section. Feel like going Oriental? Well, sit back and settle down to enjoy the fine art of Japanese tea making at the authentic Japanese tea house in tandem with the Arethe Festival at Gallery 36.
