About Kolsai Lakes National Park

Become one with nature and go camping in Kazakhstan. The Kolsai Lakes National Park is found in the scenic Tian Shan Mountains near Saty. That’s where you’ll find campsites and tours to get to the park. 

The trails throughout the park are perfect for hikers of all experiences. You could also opt to go by mountain bike or horseback.  The main hiking route will take you past the lakes from which the park gets its name. They are known as the “Pearls of Tien Shan.” Enjoy a picnic of wild strawberries and raspberries, or gorge on fresh Kazakh apples in the spruce-lined forest. Get rejuvenated as you take an irresistible dip in the crystal-clear lakes. 

If you have more than a day to adventure, stay on the trail through the Sary-Bulak Pass to really experience Kolsai Lakes National Park to its fullest.

There are many attractions contained within the Kolsai Lakes National Park. A few of these are:

  • The beautiful forests 
  • Hills and snowy mountains
  • Peaks that are surrounded by spruce trees
  • The two lower lakes, Kolsai 1 and Kolsai 2 
  • Alpine meadows and mountain pastures.

How to reach

Wondering how can you reach Kolsai Lakes National Park, well you can either take a train, bus, taxi or even self-drive whatever is convenient for you. 


If you take a train it takes 14 hours 54 minutes and will cost you 6500 to 17000 KZT.


If you take a bus it would take 17 hours and will cost you 6000 KZT.

If you take a metro to Batyr metro station, you can find shared taxis or cars.


A shared taxi should cost around 1000  to 1500 KZT per person.

 

Tips

  • Wear comfortable shoes, appropriate clothes as per your travel.
  • Carry enough water as it is a long drive. 
  • Make sure you will be spending an entire day here.
  • Try to start your day as early as possible to beat the crowd and heat.
  • Carry some good hiking boots you will make your descent on metal and wooden stairs that are usually wet and you will have to climb back.
  • Do not forget sunscreen, hat. 
  • Do carry your camera. 
  • Pack some snacks for the journey.
  • Make sure you're carrying an appropriate pair of clothes, shoes, caps, hats, gloves, etc considering the climate.
  • There are lots you can do here so make sure you plan well and book your accommodations accordingly as there's a lot you can do like hiking, boating, etc. 
  • Please keep cash on hand as there are no ATMs anywhere near Kolsai Lakes.
