About Almaty Zoo

You don’t need to brave the Zailiysky Alatau Mountains to get a glimpse of deer, golden eagle, wild ram, or wolves. All you need to do is visit the Almaty Zoo. The Almaty Zoo is over 75 years old, making it one of the oldest in Kazakhstan. It is also one of the largest in the country, covering 21 hectares of land. In addition to Kazakhstan’s native animals, there are more from other countries and continents. See the elephants, zebras, yaks, and leopards from Africa. Pay a visit to the American vultures and crocodiles. The Himalayan bears, tigers, and Persian leopards from Asia are also a crowd favorite. The young and young-at-heart in your family will enjoy a day well spent at the Almaty Zoo.

How to reach

Wondering how can you reach Almaty Zoo, well you can either take a bus, taxi or even self-drive whatever is convenient for you. 


If you take a bus #92 and #79  which starts around 5:30 a.m, the last one being around 10:30 p.m. and costs 80 KZT.

If you take a train it takes 8 hours 34 minutes includes 1hour transfer cost 1,045.64 KZT - 2,875.52 KZT.

If you drive it takes 8 mins to reach as its 3.5 km.

  • Carry enough water.
  • Do not forget sunscreen, hat. 
  • Before you plan your trip to Almaty Zoo make sure you are well organized. 
  • Check out the must-see animals and you can't possibly miss the Bird show, etc.

  • Don't miss the famous Oriental Calendar fountain in the city center, which represents the 12 animals in the Kazakh zodiac.
