About Ouarzazate

While you are getting all set for a journey from Marrakech to the Saharan sand dunes, any of the ways you decide to take go through Ouarzazate. A small town, Ouarzazate is situated at 1,135 meters of elevation. Its name comes from a Berber phrase meaning “without noise” or “without confusion”, which actually defines its outer appearance. Just an overlook of the place might not give you the exact picture behind this sleepy desert. You will have to explore to know more about this small place with many surprises waiting for you. As you approach the place, the first thing that will attract you will be its shining Beacon light, a light that radiates from the world’s largest solar power complex above the desert and provides electricity to the majority of areas in Morocco.

Something that can’t be missed while visiting the place is the Atlas Studios which is located just outside the town. The place serves you with everything from Egyptian fables to Biblical scenes and has been filmed in over 200 Hollywood movies. The place also has a beautifully preserved UNESCO world heritage site named Ait Benhaddou. Anyone who has an enthusiasm for architecture and the historical monuments will want to visit Ait Benhaddou. The place is also home to intriguing kasbahs. Don’t forget to explore it’s hidden oasis which has also been a center of attraction for many visitors. Touring the place on camelback on the sand dunes and shopping your hearts out at the local market is what visitors love to do.
