Local food markets go by different names, and Tunis is no different. The Marché Centrale was originally built in 1891. The four buildings in Art Deco and Arabian styles was restored in 2007. This delectable market is the most important commercial area of the country’s capital.
For a bit of the local flavor, visitors can buy from vendors in three separate areas. Fish, fruits and vegetables, and cheese are weighed and measured for fresh dining pleasure. Additional stalls surround the market outside offer coffee and spices. During the spring and summer florists add additional aroma with roses, geraniums, and essential oils made from those.
