About Nikitsky Botanical Gardens

Love can make one do almost anything – it is the most powerful force of the Universe. So, on your next wedding anniversary, instead of the customary bouquet of flowers, why not gift your partner a 40-hectare garden? Well, the country of Ukraine might be hesitant to hand over their oldest botanical garden, so you can settle for the mere experience of the garden instead.

A unique landmark of Crimea, the Nikitsky Botanical Garden is a beautiful outdoor garden. It is also said to be one of the oldest botanical gardens in entire Europe. The garden was founded in 1812, by the prominent botanist Christian Steven. He traveled to different regions of America, Europe, and Asia to bring together samples of different types of plants. The reason why this manmade garden has gained immense popularity is its plethora of rare breeds, types, and species of plants.

The garden is considered to be a masterpiece of landscape art! Some have even called it the “Green Treasure” of the peninsula. The sheer variety of plants growing together, in a 40-hectare territory, gives one the illusion of having traveled around the globe. The tourists are mostly attracted to two types of plants in this garden – the Cacti and Rose collections. The former has more than 1,000 rare species present, while the latter easily has more than 2,000 types of the best roses in Southern Europe.

What’s most interesting about this tourist attraction is that it is open all year round, as there is some plant or the other blooming or bearing fruit, at every time of the year! So irrespective of the season, you should definitely visit this slice of heaven and revel in its beauty.
