About Chernivtsi Oblast

You must have heard of the famous saying “Good things come in small packages.” This indicates that bigger is not always better. Such can be attested by the smallest province in Ukraine, the Chernivtsi Oblast. The province might be small in size, but it packs a punch when it comes to its Austro-Hungarian architectural heritage. So much so that, it is also called Little Vienna.

Art Nouveau architecture enthusiasts can lose themselves in the stylish frescoes and breathtaking interiors of the Chernivtsi Museum of Art. There is much to do, much to see, and much to contemplate over in the small, yet culturally rich province of Chernivtsi Oblast.

In Western Ukraine, the Chernivtsi Oblast is a province that comprises the northern parts of Bukovina and Bessarabia. Rich in history, archeology, and culture, the Chernivtsi Oblast is a popular tourist attraction. Tourists flock to the Khotyn fortress, which is considered to be one of the “Seven Wonders of Ukraine.” One will even find various archaeological sites of the Trajan’s Wall. Also, popular is the Residence of Bukovinian and Dalmatian Metropolitans in the Chernivtsi Oblast. Created by the Czech architect Josef Hlávka, in 2011 the Residence was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
