About Pysanka Museum

Do you feel you have seen it all? If you haven’t visited the Pysanka Museum, then you haven’t seen anything. The Pysanka Museum is the world’s only museum that is dedicated to the Ukrainian Easter Egg! They are so beautifully and intricately decorated that it can put an Easter egg, worth it is salt, to shame. One thing is for sure, a visit to this museum would be an eggcellent way to spend the day!

 

This ancient form of folk art originates back to the time when people developed myths that the egg was the source of life, the sun, and the Universe. Are you ready to be amazed by another interesting aspect of the museum? The Pysanka Museum, that holds intricately-designed pysanky, is also shaped like a pysanka!

 

Built-in 2000, the height of the structure is 14 meters high, while its diameter is 10 meters wide. More so, there are parts of the interior and exterior of the dome that is painted to resemble an egg. The museum boasts a whopping collection of over 10,000 eggs, where some of them date almost a century back.

How to reach

One can take a train from Ivano-Frankovsk station and get down to Kolomyja, from there take a taxi to reach the museum.
By bus, get down to Kolomya and then walk to the museum.
Alternatively one can take a taxi or Uber to reach the museum.
 

Tips

Visit the place with a local tour guide.
Don't forget to carry your camera to capture the amazing view.
Carry an ample amount of water to avoid dehydration.
Arrive early or at opening hours to avoid crowds.
Make sure you have in your backpack a protective suncream, sunglasses, rainwear, warm clothes, sufficient food, and drink
There is a separate entrance for disabled people and people with baby prams.
There is a small gift shop which offers some nice inexpensive souvenir replica eggs.
You have to pay extra for taking pictures.
Without prior reservation you can enter the museum, however, for the guide, you need to pre-order.
There is a park near the museum and a good place to get relaxed.
