The Schilthorn is a 9,744-foot peak in the Swiss Alps overlooking Lauterbrunnen and the village of Mürren. It is the highest mountain north of the Sefinenfurge Pass. It is human nature to want to ascent the highest mountains, but the Schilthorn was an engineering challenge. The cable-car finally made this mountain a possibility. The Schilthorn boasts the world’s longest aerial cableway, built by Ernst Feuz, who also built the world’s first revolving restaurant at a 9,000-foot altitude. Feel like being a secret agent with all the thrills that go along with it? Take the Thrill Walk down the vertical rock walls along a 600-foot cliff pathway. But please, no daring dos! It’s far better to go on a sledge safari and take the toboggan for a run down the Apollo back to the valley below.
From the town of Mürren, all the cable cars arrive at Schilthorn.
From Lauterbrunnen take the cable car to Grütschalp and from there take the narrow gauge train to Mürren. The cable car station to Schilthorn can be found on the other end of the village, about 15 minutes on foot. You'll board the cable car and switch to another one in Birg. Then you will reach the summit of the Schilthorn.
