About Ancient Agora

Imagine the feeling of walking on a foundation that stalwarts like Socrates and Plato had once stepped foot on! It would feel like you have traveled through time-space reality back to yesteryears.

Be sure to add Ancient Agora to your bucket list of places to see in Greece. In today’s date, the Ancient Agora of Athens is a renowned archaeological site. It is situated to the northwest of Acropolis. This ancient Greek Agora was known to have served as an assembly, residential, or commercial area for about 5,000 years. The term “Agora," in modern Greek means "marketplace."This green flatland and hill area is situated between Acropolis and Monastiraki. A remarkable feature of this site is that it is one of the world’s few archaeological sites that has a train running through it. Unfortunately, there are only foundational walls and piles of rocks left of this ancient center of Athens.

At one point in time, this buzzing marketplace would lead up to Acropolis. So, if you are traveling from Acropolis, then you can visit this location on your way to Monastiraki. However, take your time exploring this beautiful site before moving on to your next tourist attraction.
